OUR WORK
*WIDO's Strategy for Promoting Gender Equality and Women's Empowerment*
The Women Integrated Development Organization (WIDO) is committed to promoting sustainable livelihoods, financial inclusion, and community resilience through strategic partnerships and targeted interventions. As part of its efforts, WIDO has developed a comprehensive strategy to engage male champions in promoting gender equality and addressing Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and child marriage.
*WIDO's Male Champions Initiative*
WIDO's Male Champions Initiative is a key component of its gender equality strategy. The initiative involves engaging men and boys as advocates and allies in promoting women's rights, supporting women's participation in decision-making, and challenging harmful norms and biases.
*Key Strategies:*
- Advocacy and Awareness*: Male champions advocate for women’s rights, speak out against GBV and stereotypes, and promote awareness about the harm caused by GBV and child marriage.
- Mentorship and Support*: Male champions mentor other men and boys to be allies, support women’s economic empowerment programs, and promote girls’ education.
- Community Engagement*: Establishing communication with community leaders and chiefs helps shift cultural norms, promotes awareness, and encourages reporting of GBV cases.
- Supporting Women’s Economic Empowerment*: Initiatives like vocational skills training and safe spaces for children enable women to focus on their businesses, innovate, and grow.
*Impact:*
- Challenged harmful norms and biases
- Created a more inclusive environment for women
- Amplified women’s voices and work
- Fostered a culture of respect and equality
- Boosted women’s economic empowerment and contributed to local development
*Best Practices:*

Mobilizing community support for anti-GBV initiatives - Influencing decision-making and policy implementation at the local level
- Through its Male Champions Initiative, WIDO is working to create a more equitable and just society where women and girls can thrive. By engaging men and boys as allies, WIDO is promoting sustainable change and empowering women to achieve their full potential.
